This year the Arizona Game and Fish Department made a new rule. If you are water-skiing you must have an observer in the boat that is 12 years old or older and capable of performing the duties of an observer. This is a change from a “reasonable person capable of performing the duties of observing.” This means that the average family of four with children under the age of 12 can no longer go to the lake and have either of the adults water-ski (or any pulled water sport), unless you are willing to let your less than 12 year old drive the boat while one of you hold the flag.
According to the Arizona Game and Fish, it is legal for anyone of any age to operate a boat, if there is an adult on board. I went to the October 11th meeting and discussed this issue with them. I pleaded our case to no avail. The rule stands.
I am not giving up and would like to start an email campaign in hopes of getting this rule reversed.
We have two options:
1) Send me an e-mail at boatingaz@gmail.com with your name, address, and phone number. All information obtained will only be used for the purpose of confronting the Arizona Game and Fish department. I will not sell or divulge any personal information to any outside group, business, or organization. I will then take all of your names and send email to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission to show the support of people who want the rule changed back.
2) You can send an email directly to the Arizona Game and Fish Commission and tell them what you think of this new "rule". Their address is Rulemaking@azgfd.gov.
Thanks for you time.
